This log home and detached art studio was originally built by Frederick De Forest Schook, professor at the Art Institute of Chicago, and founding member of the Frogtown Art Colony that was established in part through the Soldier Rehabilitation Act of 1918. It is one of the few log homes of it’s kind that is still owned by the original family. The home retains the name “Schook Shack”, given to it by the artist when it was constructed.
The home sleeps 8 comfortably with one king, one double bed, one double sleeper sofa and a connected bunkhouse with gorgeous hand crafted twin bunks that are comfortable for adults as well as children. Two full baths, one with a tub/shower, the other with a shower and dressing area. Kitchen includes full-sized stove with oven for baking cherry pies, microwave, dishwasher, full-sized refrigerator, washer and dryer, garbage disposal and garbage compactor. TV in the master bedroom as well as TV/VCR/DVD in one of the two living rooms. Home features a gorgeous stone, wood-burning fireplace for cozy evenings and a house fan on automatic timer for seasonal cooling, as well as multi-zone heat. Firebox for marshmallow roasting or star gazing on the private beach. A large, comfortable stone porch with additional attached folding tables provides a sheltered location for outdoor serving of meals eaten on the lawn on provided tables and chairs. Detached screened-in picnic area provides additional seating for 8 and features electricity for fans and lights. Bike storage on the porch of the detached “art studio” building. Gorgeous lawns and stunning views from both inside and outside of the home.
For a greater variety of shops and restaurants, drive 10-15 minutes to Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Ephraim and Sister Bay on the Green Bay side of the Peninsula. Three 18-hole golf courses and one 9-hole course are within short drives. Door County is great for cycling. Enjoy many cultural attractions on the Peninsula, which include summer theater, musical festivals and special concerts and numerous art galleries. Also, use this cottage as a base to explore the natural beauty of Door County, including White Fish Dunes State Park, Peninsula State Park, Cave Point and much more.
