This is the Stonehouse, our Baileys Harbor home with 140 feet of Lake Michigan shore.  Here you are greeted each morning by an ever-changing spectacular sunrise.

This large, stately home was built in 1939 and sits right in the heart of Baileys Harbor.  (This town, by the way, was recently voted the 13th comfiest city in the U.S. for travelers by Expedia.com!)  There is a busy vibe right outside the front door.  Just across the street are the Cornerstone Pub and Restaurant, the Bearded Heart Coffee Shop, the Door County Brewery and Music Hall, as well as Lakeshore Adventures Watersports.  You can walk to your choice of dining experience, from fudge and ice cream cones to fine dinners.  Two parks with play equipment, as well as a sandy beach at Ridges County Park, are all easily walkable with the little ones.  The Ridges Sanctuary will offer plenty of opportunity for enjoying nature, as well as learning (and shopping!) at its interpretive center.  This is only one block away from our home.  The town library is a grueling one minute walk away.  The town marina is 2 doors down, and it is always fun to walk out to the end and watch the boats come and go.

Our backyard, in contrast to the front, is very private and just as quiet as you want it to be.  The back is one story lower than the front, down very old stone steps.  It is like stepping back time to a quieter era.  Here you can sit around the edge of the fire pit or enjoy the lounge chairs near the water.  There is a screen porch at this lower level that you can access from outside that has a comfy sofa and two tables with eight chairs.

Inside the house, your biggest dilemma may be where to sit in order to best enjoy the lake views.  The second floor three season screen porch benefits from its elevated position (and comfy furniture!) There is a large sliding glass door off the first floor family room that opens onto a small deck.  This connects to the sunroom (aka breakfast room) just off the kitchen for year-round viewing enjoyment. It is nice that you can always find your own niche here.

The living and dining rooms are large and comfortably furnished.  The kitchen, while newly renovated, retains much of its original charm in the form of the original cupboards and the 1950-ish stove.  The stove works well, but those of you who want something more modern will enjoy the 2018 gas grill!

The four large bedrooms are each named to describe the décor.  The mattresses, bedding, pillows, etc. are all new.  Almost all of the beds have duvet covers with down inserts.  You will be comfortable here.  And for peace of mind we have just installed child safety gates at the top and bottom of the stairs.

Our latest project here has been to refurbish one of the basement rooms (which has a nice view of Lake Michigan) into a rec room.  There is a new regulation ping pong table, a checkers table, a bar, a huge comfy couch, and big set of Lincoln Logs!  And it is always wonderfully cool down in that level, although the rest of the house stays comfortable with the wonderful lake breezes as well as seven ceiling fans.

This house offers you plenty of choices of dining spaces.  You can seat nine in the dining room, six in the sunroom, and eight plus on the new patio with its new patio table as well as the teak benches.  Finally, don’t forget the screen porch that seats eight!  There are plenty of dishes, silverware, glasses, wine glasses, etc. for all.

The mudroom is a convenient place to do all your laundry, plus stow away you gear or extra food/drink items.  It has a small refrigerator that we use to keep beverages conveniently at hand.

If you think this place sounds fun for the summertime, it is every bit as beautiful during every other season of the year.  It would be a great place to celebrate a country Thanksgiving or Christmas!
